   The workshop addresses: How to balance attention to the institutions’ urgent issues    with long-term academic needs? How to attend to professional lives while also            leading their institutions? How to help develop a strategic academic vision for their      institutions?

Council of Independent Colleges, New CAO Workshop, 2011

   The workshop addresses the issues that newer chief academic officers face.              Topics discussed include: accreditation; assessment and institutional                          effectiveness; faculty governance and leadership; managing time, technology, and    paper; and working with peer administrators.

American Council on Education, Executive Leadership Development - New CAOs, 2011-12

   A yearlong institute that provides practical executive leadership development for        CAOs in their first three years on the job.

Academy of Distinguished Teachers, University of Minnesota, 2006-2011

   The Academy of Distinguished Teachers is a forum through which its members           provide important leadership to the University community, serving as mentors,            advisers, and spokespersons for the University’s teaching mission. Academy              members are award-winning faculty who come from all five of the University’s              campuses. The Academy also hosts an annual three-day retreat and a teaching          conference.

Council for Associate Deans, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, 2008-2011

   The Council for Associate Deans provides a forum where Associate Deans across      all five campuses of the University of Minnesota meet once a month to discuss            issues in higher education, problem solve, develop new collaborations, and share      information.

Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), Fellow, Department Executive Officers' Program, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, 2008-09

   The CIC is a consortium of the Big Ten universities plus the University of Chicago.      Each year approximately 50 heads and chairs from CIC universities come together    for a unique leadership development seminar.

Fellow, New Chairs Academic Leadership Program, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, 2007-08

   The Provost’s Department Chairs Leadership Program has been designed to              support department chairs’ leadership and to provide critical information and              resources to chairs and heads.   

Committee on Institutional Cooperation, Fellow, Academic Leadership Program, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities 2005-06

   Established in 1989, this intensive professional development experience develops      the leadership and managerial skills of faculty who have demonstrated exceptional    ability and academic promise. Many of the programs nearly 1,000 Fellows have          gone on to serve with distinction as college presidents, provosts, and deans.              Fellows are appointed for terms of one year.
