HOLLINS UNIVERSITY

President 2017-2019

 

Oversaw a budget of $38 million, an endowment of $190 million, and a faculty of almost 100 at a small women's’ university; with graduate programs open to men and women.

  • Engaged faculty, staff, alumnae, and students in the successful development of a new Strategic Plan that is centered on new programs, teaching innovation and student success

  • Championed new and revised academic and co-curricular programs to address identified concerns, including the introduction of six new academic programs.

  • Strategically managed/balanced the allocation of financial and personnel resources.

  • Skillfully built the foundation for the development of Hollins’ first set of master's programs in the area of health sciences.

  • Shepherded the school through its first new capital project in 20 years, focused on a new student apartment village to promote vibrancy and community on campus.

  • Played a key role in raising more than $10 million a year annually for priority initiatives.

  • Built and/or reinvigorated new partnerships with other national and international higher education institutions.

  • Built Hollins as a presence in the Roanoke Valley as a partner with businesses, civic organizations, educational institutions, and other non-profits, building valuable and external alliances.

  • Revised enrollment management strategy including efforts to attract and retain students. Incoming class sizes over the past two years have been larger than the average over the past 8 years.

  • Provided new vision and structure to support student success at Hollins and beyond:

    • Elevated career development office, reshaping it as Career and Life Design and aligning it with the Rutherford Center for Experiential Learning.

    • Promoted a new design for more holistic and targeted academic advising and academic support.

Participated in national conversations on higher education leadership, building effective student support and persistence, supporting diversity initiatives, and liberal arts career development.
